Some Renters in Long Beach Now in 'Rent Strike'

(KNX 1070) -- Some apartment renters at several buildings across Long Beach are taking part in a "rent strike" to oppose evictions and rent increases.

Josh Butler with the pro-rent control group Housing Long Beach tells KNX that new apartment owners are forcing longtime tenants to leave so they can rent out the units for more money.

Better Housing for Long Beach opposes rent control, saying it would make it too restrictive for property owners to hang on to their buildings.

The group tells the Press-Telegram a rent strike is a bad idea because it would hurt a person's ability to find future housing by ruining someone's credit.
