Update With Heroes Anthony McClaren and Greg Cohen

KNX Hero of the Week

In short, 2020 has been history-making.

COVID-19. Stay-at-home orders. Racial injustice. Protesting.

Southern California has witnessed change first-hand over the last few months. And, it hasn't been easy. When businesses in the Fairfax District suffered damage from looters a few weeks ago, former KNX Hero of the Week Anthony McClaren mobilized a group to help clean up some of the damage. For Anthony, it was a way to spread some hope.

"I felt pain, seeing [the] looting," says Anthony. "I think the city is hurting, and this is just a way to make the city feel better."

Fellow 2019 Hero Greg Cohen also joined the effort, equipped with trash bags, gloves and tools.

"We love Los Angeles, and want to help clean it up," says Greg.

While the cleanup was underway, several trucks filled with California National Guard members pulled into the area around The Grove, to set up perimeter protection. Greg says it was nice to have a conversation with some of the members.

"They've been supportive, and actually thanked us for what we were doing!"

Greg's wife, Arielle says it's important to be a part of the healing process.

"If that means just talking to members of the community, whatever it looks like,” says Arielle, “I just want to be a part of that collective healing."
