Learning that you've been infected with COVID-19 could be just the start of a months-long process to recover from this virus.  As we learn more about how this coronavirus works, it's becoming clear that there is no straight forward recovery process and in fact, patients continue to experience a wide range of symptoms well after the initial infection has left their bodies.

The symptoms can last months, and they can be as mild as the loss of the sense of smell or serious lung damage.  And here's the scary part:  there's a ton about the long lasting effects of this virus that we still don't know.
