Federal prosecutors took a tough approach with Roger Stone, the long time political operative and close friend of President Trump, when they recommended that Stone spend 7 to 9 years in federal prison for lying to Congress.  But then, at the last minute, the President sent out a tweet complaining about how Stone was treated, and suddenly the Justice Department changed its mind.
