Alejandrina Morales
A first-generation college student from Ontario is working hard to "pay it forward."
Here's the KNX Hero of the week:
Nineteen-year-old Alejandrina Morales is currently enrolled at the University of Redlands. She's the first in her family to attend a four-year college, and she plans to eventually get her master's degree in teaching and education at the U of R.
Alejandrina has spent the last few years mentoring younger students, both in high school and with the Rochford College Access Program, which she herself took part in. It offers low-income students with various resources to succeed.
Alejandrina says the mentoring provides a great experience as she works towards her goal of one day becoming a math teacher:
"Mentors were very important to me," says Alejandrina. "And if I didn't have my mentors, I wouldn't be where I'm at today. So I want to be that person for somebody else."
"It is hard being first-generation. It might seem like you're alone. But if you find the right resources, you're not alone."
Along with her teaching, Alejandrina hopes to open her own tutoring center and continue to pay it forward by mentoring local youth.
We are proud to name Alejandrina Morales as the KNX Hero of the Week!
KNX Heroes presented by California Resources Corporation... saluting our military veterans, and all of our heroes.
