West Nile Virus Concerns in San Fernando Valley

(KNX 1070) - West Nile Virus is making its presence felt in the San Fernando Valley.

Nineteen mosquito samples in the Valley have tested positive for West Nile during August; there have been 10 cases of human infections, with four happening in just the past week. 

So far the number of human infections from West Nile is down from previous years, but we're still early in the season.

Doctor Sharon Balter with Los Angeles County Public Health tells KNX you can reduce your risk of contracting West Nile:

Dr. Balter says the risk for extreme West Nile symptoms increases greatly for the elderly or people with preexisting medical conditions.
