(KNX 1070) - An animal rights group says it has uncovered documents proving the inhumane treatment of a half dozen lab animals last year at UC Irvine.

The group, Stop Animal Exploitation Now!,  is calling for a federal investigation. They said they discovered six violations of the Animal Welfare Act and are accusing UC Irvine of botched experiments last year.

They involve four rabbits, a sheep, and a pig, the group alleges.

KNX reporter Craig Fiegener:

A maximum fine would be $60,000.

KNX has reached out to UC Irvine for comments.
