(KNX 1070) - A crowd of people outside the Whiskey A Go Go on Sunset were hit by a car Tuesday night.

KNX reporter Craig Fiegener:

The sheriff's department today identified a suspected drunken driver who failed to negotiate a turn and injured four people standing outside a popular West Hollywood night club.

Deputies responded just before midnight to the Whisky a Go Go at 8901 Sunset Blvd., and found four people suffering from minor injuries, according to Lt. Hector Mancinas of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Three of the injured were taken to a hospital, officials said.

"The preliminary facts of the investigation indicate that a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Brandon Baker-Grey was traveling northbound on San Vicente Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he attempted to turn westbound onto Sunset Boulevard," according to a sheriff's department statement. "He lost control of the vehicle and drove onto the sidewalk into a crowd of nightclub patrons. Several pedestrians were struck, four were injured and three were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries."

Baker-Grey was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the sheriff's department reported. His age and place of residence were not immediately available.

Video from the scene showed the car, which bore a Lyft sticker, jumping a curb and crashing into a metal pole that holds up the awning outside the club's entrance, while also striking pedestrians  on the sidewalk.

"All of a sudden I just saw people running and I was able to slip back inside," Richard Wood, a witness to the accident, told NBC4. "This thing (the metal pole) was bent and it looked like this thing (the awning) was going to come down, but it didn't come down."

The driver's blood-alcohol content was twice the legal limit, NBC4 reported.
