February 15, 2019 - 12:03 pm

(KNX 1070) -- A security guard at a Fairfax area synagogue is now facing felony charges for allegedly opening fire on a transgender woman.

Identified as Zohie Perez, she was wounded Thursday afternoon in shooting outside the Etz Jacob synagogue in the Fairfax district and one person was detained for questioning.

Peres calls herself a "1st amendment auditor," who often pushes the envelope by recording video at sensitive locations.

She claims a security guard at the synagogue was following her, telling her to leave, and then he allegedly opened fire on her.

The gunfire erupted about 12:25 p.m. in the 7600 block of Beverly Boulevard, according to Los Angeles police, who did not immediately confirm reports that the shooting involved a YouTube personality and an armed guard at a synagogue.

Her Youtube name is “Furry Potato," and she was using her video around the complex.
Perez is believed to be about 35 years old and was conscious and breathing when taken to a hospital, according to Officer Tony Im, an LAPD spokesman.

Video footage that appeared to show the shooting was streamed on YouTube. In the video, Perez can be heard cursing and saying she had been shot in a leg.

Authorities initially identified the shooting victim as a man, but Perez's identifies as a transgender female.
