October 12, 2018 - 4:27 pm

(KNX 1070) -- Cal State San Bernardino police have confirmed a female transient was taken into custody on suspicion of starting the North Park fire near CSUSB Friday. They say it appears she was smoking on the hillside and may have unintentionally sparked the flames.

The brush fire has burned at least 50 acres above San Bernardino.

Zach Behrens with the San Bernardino National Forest tells KNX it started this afternoon north of Cal State San Bernardino and is out-of-control right now.

There are no evacuations.

Dozens of firefighters are battling the fire on the ground. Water-dropping helicopters and air tankers are being used as well.
