February 12, 2019 - 8:32 am

GARDENA (CNS/KNX 1070) - Cal OSHA is now investigating the death of a man at a Gardena manufacturing plant.

The man was killed Monday after the metal cutting machine he was cleaning was somehow turned on.

The company specializing in machining for the aerospace industry was cited and fined by OSHA once before in 2014 for a serious safety violation.

A maintenance worker at an aerospace assembly facility in Gardena was killed Monday afternoon when he got trapped in a machine that's used to cut sheets of metal.

Employees say it was an incredibly gruesome incident. People apparently went running out of the facility screaming after it happened.

The man’s wife arrived a few hours later and was weeping uncontrollably as she was escorted inside. Investigators say they have a lot of work ahead.

Paramedics sent to the 1400 block of West 178th Street about 12:40 p.m. pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to the county fire department.

Information was not immediately available on the man's identity.

The man who died was in his 50s and had been with the company for about a year. Operations have been shut down at the facility.
