Street Takeovers a Concern for LA City Officials

June 13, 2018 - 8:24 am

(KNX1070) - Los Angeles city officials start the effort today to stop a dangerous practice that is on the rise, street takeovers.

KNX reporter Pete Demetriou reports:

At locations like Mason Avenue and Plummer Street in Chatsworth, hundreds of people in high powered cars sometimes close an intersection and watch as drivers burn out tires or spin and drift cars in a circle, burning rubber and leaving do-nut shaped patterns on the asphalt.

The city is listening because the L.A. City Council Public Safety Committee is holding hearings Wednesday looking at options to stop the street takeovers before someone gets hurt or killed.
