Some are Unhappy as Southern California Edison Utility Crews to Trim Trees in Malibu to Reduce Wildfire Risk

April 15, 2019 - 7:12 am

Some Malibu residents may notice big changes in trees around town as utility crews move in to start trimming them back. The idea is to cut wildfire risk.

But it may rub some people the wrong way.

People who live in high-risk fire zones may notice some trees drastically cut back.

Southern California Edison crews start trimming trees beginning April 15.

The program, which SCE refers to as its annual vegetation management plan, has been the subject of controversy, not only in Malibu but across Los Angeles County.

The first trimming will occur in the Bonsall area of Point Dume, and will move from there toward the west and east.
