Solitary Grey Whale Seen Off OC Coastline Months Prior to Average Migration

(KNX 1070) -- A solitary grey whale seems to be off-schedule -- cruising the waters off the Orange County coastline months earlier than when gray whales are traditionally making their southward migration.

Usually, gray whales don't pass through Southern California until late November or early December.

Waye Perryman, a biologist at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center,  tells KNX the whale's age might be part of the issue.

Perryman isn't optimistic about the whale's future, adding that the whale looks thin and probably didn't feed enough during the summer.
