(KNX 1070) -- Instead of kids screams and laughter, you'll hear the excited yips and barks of dogs enjoying a refreshing dip in six of Los Angeles County's public pools.

Daniel Lara, the pool supervisor for LA county parks and rec, tells KNX "Pooches in the Pool" is a free event and all dogs with vaccinations are invited.

This is their second year. The doggie "free swim" runs from 5-to-7 p.m. The first hour is for small dogs, and big dogs will get their chance to swim in the second hour.

The "Pooches in the Pool" Labor Day event on Sept. 3, will give dogs their choice of six LA County pools to splash around in.

The free event, hosted by the Los Angeles County departments of Parks and Recreation and Animal Care and Control, will allow big dogs and small dogs the chance to frolic and play with others and cool off in the water.

In order to attend, fill out the pre-registration form, found on parks.lacounty.gov, and present it to any of the six locations.

Dog owners must also present current licensing and vaccination documents in order to attend and, due to safety reasons, owners will not be able to swim with their pets.

The six locations include:

City Terrace Park,1126 N. Hazard Ave., City Terrace;

Victoria Regional Community Park, 419 Martin Luther King, Jr. St., Carson;

El Cariso Community Regional Park, 13100 Hubbard St., Sylmar;

Don Knabe Community Regional Park, 19700 S. Bloomfield Ave., Cerritos;
