December 05, 2018 - 3:19 pm

(KNX 1070) - Police departments in the South Bay are looking for a sexual assault suspect who victimized a woman early Sunday after riding the Green Line near El Segundo.

The man is identified as Kerry Frank Lathon befriended a woman who missed her stop on the Green Line and carried on a conversation with her for some time, according to El Segundo Police Sgt. Aaron Corkins.

"He said 'Hey I need to meet a friend, would you like to come back with me?' So they got back on the Green Line and ended up stopping at the Park Place and Douglas exit. He said 'my friend is over here in this parking structure' and he led her into a parking structure on Rosecrans and that's where he allegedly forcibly raped her," Corkins said.

The woman reported the crime and later picked Lathon’s photo out of a group put together by detectives.

He does have a criminal history, and he is on parole. Lathon, who is believed to be a transient, is known to ride the Metro lines between El Segundo and Hawthorne.

Officials are hoping that with a wide distribution of his picture, they can stop him before attacks anyone else.
