Police Investigating Shooting near 10 Freeway in Montclair

(KNX 1070) - Police in Montclair opened fire on a man who was throwing rocks at passing cars this morning.

He was then shot by police.

Montclair Police Chief Robert Avels says the man’s bizarre behavior began in Upland where he was first taken to a hospital for treatment.

After leaving, he says the suspect entered a home in Upland and assaulted a resident.

He evaded capture and ended up here where he began, throwing rocks at passing cars. Responding officers almost immediately shot at him.

Chief Avels says as many as seven vehicles suffered various amounts of damage. The suspect was taken to the hospital.
