(KNX 1070) - Volunteers say it's heartbreaking: a food pantry in Orange County is having to scale back services to needy people because of a major water leak.

The leak left most of the South County Outreach in Irvine underwater and may take up to two months to fix.

The pantry serves 2,000 people a month in an area stretching south from Irvine to San Clemente.

CEO Lara Fisher tells KNX they try to ensure no-one leaves empty-handed,  but it's difficult:

Fisher says she's hoping for more financial support from the community to help buy perishable food to offer to families.

The public can make cash donations at the pantry's website: just search 'South County Outreach."
