Nine Children Injured in Dana Point Van Crash

October 03, 2018 - 4:33 pm

DANA POINT (CNS) - A van crashed into a tree in Dana Point today, injuring nine children inside.

The children in the van were all 11 to 12 years old, and four of them were listed as "trauma" victims while the remaining sustained minor injuries, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Tony Bommarito.

The crash happened just before 3:20 p.m. at Dana Point Harbor Drive and Cove Road in Dana Point, Bommarito said.

It was unclear what caused the crash. Photos from the scene showed the white van tangled with the tree, with a stack of surfboards that may have been atop the vehicle on the ground. The van may have also been pulling a small trailer, which wound up overturned near the vehicle.
