New Report says Charging People to Drive to the Westside Could Help Ease Traffic

A new report says charging people to drive on the Westside could help ease traffic.

The Southern California Association of Governments says it recommends a four dollar fee.

"Four dollars certainly has a very significant impact in terms of changing travel patterns. About 24 percent of the vehicle miles traveled, or hours traveled, this really means congestion would start to smooth out during the most congested time," Darin Chidsey, interim executive director of the association, tells KNX saying that would make a big difference.

He says more public transit options would have to be included in the area before a fee would go into effect.

It's unclear if politicians would support congestion pricing.

Any plan for a fee would have to pass several steps.
