A man was shot and killed Sunday in an officer-involved-shooting in downtown Los Angeles, police said.

It happened about 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of 7th and Hope streets, police said.

According to police, two officers from LAPD's Transit Services Division saw a man armed with a shotgun inside the 7th Street Metro Center station.

Those officers chased the man out of the subway station and onto the street. They attempted to stop the man and a short foot pursuit took place, which ended about a block from the subway station. At least one of the officers opened fire, hitting the man.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of kin.

There's no word yet as to what exactly precipitated the OIS.

A shotgun and ammunition were recovered at the scene.
