(KNX 1070) - A South Los Angeles man, who was initially arrested for child abuse, may face a murder charge in the death of his 4-year-old daughter.

LAPD Juvenile Detectives are still trying to determine exactly what happened in the home.

Doctors tried but were unable to save  Zaraellia Thompson who was rushed to a hospital Sunday after she was found in a bathtub of her home.

Her father, 23-year-old Charles Lee, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse leading to death, but with the investigation now pointing in the direction of a homicide, charges may be elevated to murder.

Two other adults were in the home but it is not known if the mother was present.

Both the District Attorney’s Office and Detectives with the Child Abuse Section are declining to release much in the way of information until an autopsy is conducted.

They want to confirm if there had been a pattern of child abuse prior to the girl's death.
