Legal Settlement Agreement on OC Homeless at a Standstill

October 29, 2018 - 4:10 pm

(KNX 1070) -- There's been a snag in finalizing a legal agreement between Orange County lawmakers and homeless advocates.

A federal judge in Orange County heard details of a proposed settlement of a lawsuit over the treatment and housing of homeless people. The issue has been brewing in the county for months escalating when authorities cleared out a massive encampment along the Santa Ana riverbed. The settlement revolves in part around the handling of homeless people who decline county housing or other services.

The issue is that the settlement, as it stands, does not encompass every city in the OC.

The settlement talks will continue. In court, it was announced that Santa Ana has a 200-bed temporary shelter near completion and Anaheim is working on a similar amount of beds in conjunction with the Salvation Army.
