(KNX 1070) - Police at LAX are praising the quick work of their officers to stop a man who made his way onto the runway.

He scaled a barbed wire fence near Sepulveda and Lincoln north of the airfield.

Airport police spokesman Rob Pedregon says the man was quickly caught.

Before his capture, he did get uncomfortably close to an airliner full of passengers.

Pedregon tells KNX the intruder is a middle-aged homeless man with mental health problems.

He says thanks to his officer's quick response, this turned a security breach into a security success.
