LA City Council to Approve 'Green New Deal' to Tackle Climate Change

April 16, 2019 - 8:51 am

Leaders in the city of Los Angeles are expected to approve a so-called 'Green New Deal' to tackle climate change at their meeting Tuesday morning.

The proposals would set up a special department to coordinate citywide efforts to cut greenhouse gases.

City Councilman Paul Koretz tells KNX urgent action is needed:

"We're just about out of time. If we don't take dramatic steps now and steps that people aren't talking about yet, we are going to miss our opportunity," he said.

He says the aim is to make the city carbon-neutral within 12 years.
