Port of L.A. Now in the Business of Building Rockets

Elon Musk's SpaceX company envisions missions to the Moon and Mars.


LOS ANGELES (KNX1070) - SpaceX has been given the green light to begin manufacturing its big new rocket at the Port of Los Angeles.

The BFR as SpaceX CEO Elon Musk calls it would be intended for a missions to the moon and Mars, but Musk has even proposed using it for high-speed trips on Earth. Can you imagine flying from LA to NY in 25 minutes? The Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved an initial 10-year term for the company to lease 19 acres at the port. The site could be a huge economic boom for Los Angeles creating more than 700 jobs. 

LA City Councilman Joe Buscaino represents the area: 

The annual rent for the site would be nearly $1.4 million.
