Free Ride May be Over for Zero-Emission Drivers in Express Lanes

Metro is looking at dropping that freebie because of growing congestion in those lanes.

LOS ANGELES (KNX1070) - Metro is taking up a controversial topic that could really anger people who drive clean air vehicles in the Express Lanes. They may have that free ride taken away. 

Some people who drive zero-emission vehicles but travel alone might end up losing a big benefit soon. Right now those solo drivers are allowed to use toll-lanes on the 10 and 110 freeways for free.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn says there are pros and cons to this:

Metro is looking at dropping that freebie because of growing congestion in those lanes. The idea is opposed by environmentalists who say the free toll lanes are a big incentive for people to buy non-polluting cars.
