LOS ANGELES (KNX1070) - Many people who've rushed to finish their taxes by Tuesday's midnight deadline are facing frustration in trying to file their returns and pay what they owe.

The IRS system that lets taxpayers file-and-pay online has been having big problems all day and was down for many hours.

Officials say they're working hard to fix the glitch and hope everybody who wants to use that system will be able to.

The IRS commissioner has pledged that taxpayers affected by Tuesday's outage of the e-File system will not be punished for the agency's technical glitch.  It's just one of many ongoing issues the agency is dealing with.

For last-minute filers who want to use snail mail in South LA, the Los Angeles Processing and Distribution Center, 7001 S. Central Ave., and the Santa Ana Processing and Distribution Center, 3101 W. Sunflower Ave., will be open until midnight.

For San Gabriel Valley residents, the Industry postal center, 15421 E. Gale Ave., will collect mail until 10 p.m. In the Inland Empire, the San Bernardino postal center, 1900 W. Redlands Blvd., will stay open till 8 p.m.
