EL MONTE (KNX1070) - Los Angeles County Sheriff's homicide detectives have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old South El Monte High School student.

Jeremy Sanchez's body was found near the San Gabriel River. Motive for killing still being investigated.

Detectives suspect the boy fatally stabbed his friend Wednesday afternoon near the riverbed.

Lt. John Corina, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, said the suspect was arrested at his home.

Detectives also served a search warrant at the home but did not find the weapon.

Corina did not release the suspect’s name because he is a minor. The boy was booked on suspicion of murder and taken to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey.
