(KNX 1070) -- A recently released report by the Defense Intelligence Agency warns that China and Russia are building an arsenal that could target the U.S.

Titled, “Challenges to Security in Space," the report that China's military is making military advances that could threaten U.S. satellites, GPS and early warnings of missile launches.

In recent years, the U.S. military has become more and more dependent on space assets.

“It [the report] is intended to support a deeper public understanding of key space and counter space issues and inform open dialogue and partner engagement on these challenges,” a DIA spokesman told SpaceNews.

The report says that both countries could launch vehicles and satellites into space, meaning both countries could develop innovative ways of using space to improve their military operations on the ground.

“Having seen the benefits of space-enabled operations, some foreign governments are developing capabilities that threaten others’ ability to use space. China and Russia, in particular have taken steps to challenge the United States,” the report said.

Hosts of KNX In-Depth spoke to retired General William Shelton, who headed up the Air Force Space Command, and is now chair of the Space Foundation in Colorado to talk about the growing arms race in space.
