Metro Approves Big Changes for the 710 Freeway

The board of directors has voted to move ahead with smaller-scale improvements to the Long Beach Freeway

LOS ANGELES (KNX1070) - Metro Board of Directors voted Thursday to move ahead with smaller-scale improvements to the Long Beach Freeway. 

The board has voted in favor of widening the 710 Freeway from Long Beach to East Los Angeles, but it will be delayed until other roadway improvements are completed. A crowd of people opposed to the plan showed up to try to persuade the board not to okay the plan. Hundreds of residents and businesses near the freeway would be displaced by the expansion. Actual widening could take up tp 15 years. 

Mayor Garcetti told KNX he understands the concerns of critics because the situation is personal:

Proponents say the project will create jobs, ease congestion and make the freeway safer. However KNX1070's Craig Fiegener found a woman with a different opinion:
