Judge Dismisses Murder Charges Against Man in Skid Row Stabbings

August 10, 2018 - 12:41 pm

(KNX 1070) - A judge has dismissed murder charges against the man convicted of the Skid Row stabbing murders 40 years ago.

Family members close to Bobby Maxwell greeted the news with tears and smiles.

KNX reporter Pete Demetriou reports:

Judge Larry Fidler agreed to dismiss murder charges against Maxwell on compassionate grounds since he has been in a vegetative state at County USC Medical Center for the last nine months.

His attorneys called it a vindication even though they concede that Maxwell will likely never leave the hospital alive.

That is not stopping his sister Rosie Harmon from visting him Friday.

The Los Angeles DA’s Office, while agreeing to the dismissal, did point out that it was without prejudice --  meaning if Bobby Maxwell recovers enough to assist his lawyers they are prepared to go to trial on five murder charges against him that were leveled by a grand jury in 2013.

Defense counsel say they are confident they could beat those charges if a trial ever happens.
