Initiative to Split California into Three States Makes November Ballot

(KNX1070) - They say “breaking up is hard to do” but proponents of a ballot measure are going to try to pull it off and try to break the state into three parts.  In fact, voters will be voting on it in the November election.

What initiative author Tim Draper has dubbed "CAL 3" surpassed the more than 400,000 valid signatures needed to qualify for the ballot. Draper, a venture capitalist, says he conceived the initiative out of a belief that "the citizens of the whole state would be better served by three smaller state governments while preserving the historical boundaries of the various counties, cities and towns." A spokesman for the campaign against the initiative calls CAL 3 "a massive distraction that will cause political chaos and greater inequality."
