Warnings are going out about high surf and dangerous rip currents. A Los Angeles County lifeguard captain tells KNX that novice surfers should stay out of the water. He says that swimmers and surfers should check with lifeguards before going into the ocean.

KNX's Craig Fiegener reports:

Los Angeles County Fire Lifeguard Captain Julio Rodriguez says if you get caught in one resist your instinct to fight it. He talked to KNX reporter Cooper Rummell:

Rodriguez  says to stay calm and swim parallel to the shore until you’re out of the rip current and if you’re having a hard time, wave your arms to alert a lifeguard.
