Griffith Observatory to be Closed until May 6

If you were thinking of visiting the Griffith Observatory within the next two weeks, you will have to wait a while longer.

The famed building and surrounding areas will be closed from Monday through May 6 because of four major construction projects on nearby roads and at the Observatory itself.

Officials say that work is needed to improve visitor access and safety and upgrade some of the building's vital systems.

On April 11, it was announced The Griffith Observatory will be closed for two weeks due to four major projects involving construction along the roads and at the Observatory building, but it will be a bit longer.

The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, which owns and operates Griffith Observatory, said it is undertaking the projects to improve visitor access and safety and to repair fundamental building systems.
