Gov. Jerry Brown Hints He May Sign Controversial Wildfire Bill

(KNX 1070) - Governor Jerry Brown is dropping heavy hints that he will sign into law a bill responding to the series of catastrophic wildfires over the past year.

Critics have attacked the measure, saying it includes a bail-out for the big utilities who face billions in liability costs from fire damage.

But Governor Brown defended the bill when asked why taxpayers should help out big companies like Edison and PG&E:

The Governor also said much more needs to be done to reduce wildfire danger by thinning out forests. He says as many as 120 million trees need to be cut down or deliberately burned.
