(KNX 1070) - A registered sex offender may have fled to Southern California and the FBI is warning the public.

Joseph Kopacz, a 54-year-old man,  was recently convicted, in absentia, of sexually attacking a victim during a home invasion in Illinois.

Kopacz attempted to sexually assault a victim who had been asleep in the home during the home invasion, according to a press release from the FBI Los Angeles Field office.

Kopacz is believed to have been in contact with associates in Riverside County and may be traveling in Southern California, the press release said.

There is a $5,000 reward being offered in exchange for information that may lead to his arrest. He disappeared while on out on bond.

In December, federal authorities charged him with unlawful flight to avoid confinement.

The suspect is white, 6 feet 1 inches, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He is considered armed and dangerous.

He also has a scar on his lower right arm.
