LONG BEACH (KNX 1070) - There was an explosion this morning in an underground Southern California Edison vault at Golden Shore and West Seaside Way in Long Beach.

Five people were injured. The explosion occurred near Golden Shore and West Seaside Way.

A Southern California Edison crew was working in an underground vault at that location when the explosion occurred.

The five had various burn injuries and all were taken to the hospital.

Edison Spokesperson Robert Villegas said they've begun investigating the incident.

He says the contract workers were involved in planned repair work.

Due to the scheduled work, he says as many as 75 customers were without power.
