(KNX 1070) --  A batch of mosquitoes that were trapped in Playa Vista have tested positive for the St. Louis Encephalitis virus. It's the first case this year in LA County.

There has not been a case of a human carrying this virus since 1997.

It's similar to West Nile virus and is transmitted to people through bites from infected insects.

In the most severe cases, it can affect the central nervous system and lead to meningitis or encephalitis which can be deadly.
