DWP Announces 5-year $100 Million Insulation Rebate Program

(KNX 1070) - The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has announced a 5-year $100 Million insulation rebate program.

Given that heat waves like the one that gripped the city last month for days are likely the new normal, the goal is to incentivize homeowners to install attic insulation.

Residents wouldn't need to run the AC as much, the insulation would keep the house cooler and puts less pressure on the city's power grid.

KNX reporter Margaret Carrero:

Mayor Eric Garcetti says they’ll roll out a similar program for low-income and affordable multi-family complexes early next year.

It’s the latest in a slew of incentives the utility has offered to help Angelenos conserve energy and reduce their energy costs.

Brian Adler has been enjoying his share:

Now he’s having insulation installed in his attic. He’s hopeful this will do the trick and take a bite out his next electric bill. Under the rebate program, the DWP will cover $1 per square foot of insulation up to 80 percent of the total project cost for single-family homes and duplexes.
