Commemoration of 9/11 Includes Local So-Cal Ceremonies

September 11, 2018 - 11:17 am

(KNX 1070) —The 17th anniversary of 9/11 is being marked across Southern California with a series of ceremonies by local fire and police departments.

Orange County firefighter Scott Townley has an unofficial memorial at his home in Fullerton where hundreds of people turn out to see flags for every firefighter killed and crosses for every victim.

He tells KNX this is a labor of love:

He's expecting more than a thousand people at his home on North Woods Avenue at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning as the national anthem is sung and prayers are said.

Meanwhile, the largest 9-11 remembrance on the West Coast happened near Dodger Stadium.

There was a memorial near Dodger Stadium on 9/11. LAFD raised a memorial in 2003 and a volunteer team brought a 23-ton steel column from the base of the World Trade Center.

It's the largest remnant of the attacks outside of New York City:

This story is developing.
