Anaheim Wants to Compromise with Disney on Luxury Hotel

August 16, 2018 - 10:52 am

(KNX 1070) - Anaheim says it wants to reach a compromise with Disney after the company announced this week it was stopping plans for a big new luxury hotel at the Disneyland Resort.

Disney had agreed to build the project based on an understanding that it could keep 70 percent of the room taxes for the first 20 years.

But the city dropped that incentive after Disney slightly changed the hotel's planned location.

Earlier this week, Walt Disney Company put construction plans on hold for a luxury hotel in the Disneyland Resort's shopping district, citing a feud with Anaheim officials over tax subsidies.

The dispute centers on a $267 million tax break that the Anaheim City Council approved in 2016 for a 700 room hotel.

The President of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce has called the decision a "devastating blow."
