Westwood is home to UCLA and also for the second straight year is California's most expensive place to rent an apartment.

If you want to rent an apartment in the Westside's 90024 zip code, a new study says to expect to pay on average nearly $5,000 a month, or a four percent leap from last year.

In the RENTCafe study, Westwood's rent ranks fourth in the country behind New York City's mid-town.

Westwood is the fourth most expensive city ahead of the 90028 zip code, or West Hollywood, which also includes the Beverly Grove neighborhood.

David Larango, with the Westwood Neighborhood Council, tells KNX he thought Santa Monica would have beaten them out.

"We have a lack of housing, certainly a lack of affordable housing," Larango said. "It's not entirely surprising in the sense that this is a high demand area."

He does point out rent is generally high all over the state.

Culver City ranked No. 26, San Franciso had three zip codes at No. 6,  No. 11 and No. 30, Marina Del Ray was No. 41, Santa Monica was No. 43.
