Today is now known as "John Singleton Day" Tuesday to honor the acclaimed movie director who died of a massive stroke last month.

USC will also hold a private memorial celebrating Singleton's life Tuesday.

He graduated from the USC's School of Cinematic Arts in 1990 and directed the iconic 1991 "Boyz n the Hood" that was based on his own life in South Central LA.

Singleton died at age 51 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after complaining of leg pain and suffering a massive stroke last month.

Tributes poured in after his death from the music and movie industry, including Ice Cube, who was in "Boyz n the Hood."

The very next year after he released his move he became the youngest person and first African American ever nominated for the Best Director Oscar.
