Thousands of Kobe Bryant fans registered to attend his memorial have been placed on a waitlist for the "Celebration of Life for Kobe and Gianna Bryant."

Tuesday, people received emails informing them that they'd been put on a waitlist for the Feb. 24, 10:00 a.m event.

Organizers say if demand exceeds the number of tickets being sold, a lottery will go into effect.

Bryant and his daughter Gianna, along with seven other people died after a helicopter they were in crashed in Calabasas.

On February 19 at 10 a.m. tickets were released for public sale. Fans with personal access codes had access to purchase available tickets. Tickets were priced at $224 each, 2 for $224 and $24.02 each."

The email Tuesday told people that in order to ensure the experience is respectful, only a small number of fans would be invited.

"With thousands upon thousands of passionate fans from around the world who’d like to pay their respects, demand for tickets far exceeds the availability for A Celebration of Life for Kobe and Gianna Bryant Public Ticket Release," the email reads.

All funds and ticket sales gathered from the event were to go to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation. The foundation was renamed by Vanessa Bryant on Feb. 14 to include her daughter's moniker, "Mambacita."
