Preparations are underway for possible SoCal grocery workers’ strike.

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) and its 46,000 unionized employees are due to continue negotiations with Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions through Sunday.

The negotiations impact stores from north of Santa Maria to the U.S.-Mexico border that have been working under a three-year contract that expired March 3.

Workers are set to start voting on the latest contract offer Monday. If they reject it, the region may see a walkout as early as next week.

The last grocery strike to happen in SoCal was in 2003. It was the largest and longest in supermarket strike in U.S. history --  nearly 60,000 workers walked off the job.
