There's a sick and dangerous trend happening in Nevada.  People are gluing tiny cowboy hats to pigeons.

One pigeon, "Billie the Pidge" died this week. “We are saddened to announce that Billie the Pidge has passed away,” Lofty Hopes Pigeon Rescue tweeted on Jan. 12. “She was weak when we caught her and had lost toes to stringfoot in addition to the hat being glued onto her head.”

Billie was just one of many spotted around Las Vegas wearing cowboy hats. Lofty Hopes told Fox11 that they'd rescued three birds so far.

“Cluck Norris” is another bird they saved. It’s hat was also glued on. The vet had to trim its feathers to take the hat off.

"While quirky or fun, it's still inhumane," City Manager Sabra Newby, who posted the photo on her Twitter page, said in a statement to ABC Reno affiliate KOLO. "The birds suffered when this exact thing happened last year in Las Vegas. One of them recently died. We don't want copycats."
