The saga will now come to a close. On Monday night, the final trailer was released for "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker."

Fans got to see the trailer during ESPN's "Monday Night Football" as they watched a teaser for the final movie in the 42-year run of the popular franchise.

The trailer focuses on the main character Rey (Daisy Ridley) who is seen running through a forest, piloting a spaceship, and, of course, facing off against Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

Other classic characters make an appearance in the trailer including Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and C-3PO. The late Carrie Fisher, who died in 2016, also can be seen in the trailer as Leia Organa, who hugs Rey as the pair is seen crying.

The trailer premiered on what would have been Fisher's 63rd birthday.

"The Rise of Skywalker" will close the Star Wars universe's sequel trilogy which started in 2015 with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director J.J. Abrams said the idea with this film is to bring "this thing to a close in a way that is emotional and meaningful."

“So if years from now, someone’s watching these movies, all nine of them, they’re watching a story that is as cohesive as possible,” Abrams said.

Many fans expressed their excitement on social media following the trailer. Blink-182's Mark Hoppus even gave his opinion about one of the characters.

The new poster for the movie was also released on Monday with an option for fans to buy their tickets on Fandango.

"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" hits theaters on December 20.
