Dame Helen Mirren may not be Queen Elizabeth II, but she did win an Oscar for playing her in a movie.

And with Meghan Markle set to step down from her royal duties next month, “The Queen” star is making it know she still has her back.

“Meghan Markle was a fantastic addition to the royal family,” Mirren told Variety. “Charming, did everything right, was gracious, was sweet-natured, and seemed to be … Wow! What a lovely addition.”

The 74-year-old believes Meghan and Prince Harry’s bombshell decision to cease being “senior members” of the royal family is a “loss,” but ultimately thinks it’s what is right for them.

“I think their instincts are absolutely right, and I applaud them for it. Hugely actually,” she added. “Of course, it is complicated.”

Despite the headlines, Mirren thinks everything will work out in the end and even joked how her comments might land her some heat as well.

“And I think it will all, hopefully, sort itself out, and the tabloid pearl-clutchers will get over their trauma at not having someone to attack all the time,” the English actress said. “They’ll find another victim… probably me.”

As was previously announced, Meghan and Harry’s royal duties will cease on March 31st.

In addition, the couple are barred from using the “Sussex Royal” name or any other HRH titles.

On a positive note, they will continue to be known as The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and will also keep their lesser-known titles of The Earl and Countess of Dumbarton and The Baron and Baroness Kilkeel.

While Mirren may have hung up her royal duties after starring in “The Queen,” she will next be seen playing criminal mastermind Magdalene Shaw in “Fast & Furious 9,” which hits theaters on May 22nd.
