Protests Continue in Hollywood, Van Nuys Over Death of George Floyd

There are more protests - and day-after clean-ups - happening today across SoCal in response to the police killing of George Floyd.

It's another night of a curfew city and county-wide - this time at 6 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

HOLLYWOOD

As of Monday afternoon after the 6 p.m. citywide curfew, there has been reports of looting at a Rite Aid market happening at Sunset Boulevard and El Centro. LAPD responded with about 45 officers, according to KNX reporter Pete Demetriou.

There is a massive protest happening in the heart of Hollywood on Sunset and El Centro right now.

There is a police presence on the scene Monday late afternoon. There is another protest happening on Sunset Boulevard near the Laugh Factory. 

There's also looting being reported at Sunset Boulevard and Gower as reported by KNX 1070's Scott Burt. 

Expect delays on surface streets in Hollywood due to the protests.

LAPD Michel Moore said on Monday afternoon during the Mayor briefing that close to 700 arrests were made last night, about 10 percent for burglary/looting.

VAN NUYS

Arrests are being made in Van Nuys Monday afternoon after looting has started in various locations including a pharmacy in Van Nuys.

There is another protest happening at City Hall on the Spring Street side Monday afternoon.

SANTA MONICA

On Monday morning, Santa Monica began to clean up the broken windows and effects from looting Sunday. Hundreds were arrested during the chaotic scene. The city of Santa Monica has a new curfew Monday: 1 p.m. for business districts and 4 p.m. city-wide.

As of mid Sunday afternoon, looting had occurred at a Citibank as well as Amazon trucks being looted in Santa Monica, according to various Twitter reports.

On Sunday afternoon in Santa Monica, KNX reporter Pete Demetriou said there were about 500 to 600 people protesting on Colorado Boulevard and another 200 or so protesters on Ocean Avenue.

The crowd is sitting down blocking the entrance to the Santa Monica Pier, according to Demetriou who added they are peaceful.

The Promenade has been shut down, according to KNX reporter Pete Demetriou.

There is some looting going on, according to Demetriou.

The city of Santa Monica has declared a 4 p.m. curfew Sunday.

LONG BEACH

Monday, Long Beach recovered from the looting that began in The Pike Outlets Sunday, according to a City News Service story.

KNX reporter Margaret Carrero is covering the protest in Long Beach set for 3 p.m. and reported she is seeing people carrying signs like "Walk in Love, Walk in Unity," and chanting George Floyd's name and a giant peace sign so far.

She said so far there are about 100 people who are in the middle of the intersection blocking traffic at Broadway Avenue. She reports things seem to be peaceful so far.

TORRANCE

Other protests include one in Torrance where about 100 people were protesting according to various Twitter reports.

That is taking place at Torrance City Hall. On Sunday morning the city of Torrance announced there would be "curfew everyday between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. during the state of local emergency."

HUNTINGTON BEACH

Hundreds of protesters have gathered in Huntington Beach and have been ordered to disperse.
